It is an inflammation in the area of the glans and foreskin that can appear as diffuse or localized erythema, red spots, swelling, while it can present secretions or peeling of the skin in the area. It is usually accompanied by a feeling of tension, burning and itching. In some cases phimosis may appear.
The causes of balanoposthitis arepoor hygiene, increased humidity in the area, diabetes, obesity andallergies-irritations.
The clinical examination is the one that will establish the diagnosis. A culture from the glans area and a blood sugar test may be needed to investigate the cause..
The aim of the treatment is to keep the area clean and dry. It is recommended to maintain good hygiene in the area, washing the glans and foreskin with warm water and special cleansers, while very good drying is required in a gentle way, without causing damage to the epithelium. The same procedure must be followed after every sexual intercourse, while washing is recommended after every urination. In the acute phase, water baths with special solutions are especially helpful. Antifungal ointment, antifungal pills, and mild corticosteroid ointment may also be given if the doctor decides. In case of recurrences and coexisting phimosis, circumcision is recommended.
Warts are small papillomatous lesions in the genital and perianal area or, more rarely, on the lips, larynx, hands and mouth. They are caused by the HPV virus and there are over 100 types, of which 15 are at high risk for carcinogenesis. One in two sexually active men will acquire the virus at some point in their lives.
It is the most common sexually transmitted disease, and its incidence is increasing rapidly worldwide. All types of HPV are transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, so full sexual intercourse is not required. HPV can be transmitted even if there are no obvious signs (latent form).
They appear within two to three months of being infected with the virus, but they can appear years later. They are usually asymptomatic and may rarely cause itching or a burning sensation. Gradually they increase in size, having the form of a cauliflower.
The HPV vaccine prevents more than 90% of genital warts by only protecting against certain types of HPV. It is necessary to use a condom, for protection from all sexually transmitted diseases.
Unfortunately, the wart virus cannot be removed from the body and remains forever in it indicating a latent state. The methods that can be used to remove penile warts are diathermy – electrocoagulation, liquid nitrogen and Laser CO2.
It is a non-contagious inflammatory dermatosis that hardens the skin. The etiology and pathogenesis are unknown and unspecified. It is found in the foreskin, coronal groove, glans, body of the penis and scrotum.
It produces very small isolated white lesions, usually shiny and smooth. Later, the spots grow into larger plaques, making the skin thin and atrophic. This situation makes the skin fragile and causing cracks, oozing and stretch marks appear. The patient may experience itching, pain and a feeling of tension. If the disease progresses, scar tissue develops, creating phimosis and a painful erection, while if it is located in the glans, it blocks the external urethra.
There is no pharmaceutical treatment. Creams of various chemical substances are usually administered to regenerate the skin and relieve the feeling of tension. Circumcision is recommended for immediate relief and complete healing.
